Living, Consciously

I googled ‘consciousness’ today and here are my findings:
1. an alert cognitive state in which you are aware of yourself and your situation
2. having an awareness of one’s environment and one’s own existence, sensations, and thoughts
3. the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself

Consciousness is quality that is taken for granted, and often ignored in Western society.  How often do we sit, breathe and become aware of our body?  How often do we pause and centre ourselves from the stress of everyday live?  How often do we stare in awe as the sun slowly descends into the land, leaving behind an array of beautiful colours?

We are missing so much of life’s beautiful by living our lives unconsciously.  When one is conscious of one’s surroundings and self, one see the elegance and grace of ‘ordinary’ things.  Rain is not longer rain.  It is defined by how it feels on your skin, how it smells as you inhale, how it sounds as it rhymatically hits our shoulder every second, how it looks when you gaze ahead to see the streams of white falling with the wind.  When you are unconscious, what you feel, smell, hear and see is merely rain- nothing more.

Be present today.  Be aware of every moment and every feeling.  Do not label with words, but feel with her heart.
